Under the heading "The Charwoman and Her Children" the Advertiser of 18 June 1904, page 6g says, inter alia:
-
Their homes are in many instances slum cottages, where all that is elevating
in life is foreign and strange. If the children are lifted out of these conditions
into the light and sunshine of life and tended by skilled hands the Creche
achieves an object which is worthy of the support of the community. A mother
leaves her child in the nursery from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the charge of 2d
[2 cents] per day, whereas it costs the management 1/- [10 cents] per day.
